Planning your funeral ahead of time is a sensible way of ensuring your wishes are shared, as well as easing the burden of funeral planning for your family or loved ones in their time of grief.

Two options: pre-planning or
pre-paying

Pre-planned funerals:

You have the option to prearrange your funeral without any financial commitment. Simply communicate your preferences to us regarding the type of service you desire, and we'll document them for future reference. This service is offered at no cost to you.

Pre-paid funerals:

Following pre-planning, you have the opportunity to pre-fund your funeral. There are several advantages to pre-payment, such as exemption from asset testing, alleviating financial burdens on your loved ones, and the assurance that your funds are securely held, providing you with peace of mind. Funds for pre-paid funerals are held in a dedicated Trust, separate from Golden Bay Motueka Funeral Services, and are fully protected by the bank. They can only be accessed upon presentation of a Death Certificate.

We simplify the process of pre-paying for your funeral with various payment methods, including the option to pay in installments. Feel free to discuss your preferences and available options with us.

Guard against inflation

By prepaying for your funeral now, your prearranged plan will usually not incur extra costs for your estate, as inflation increases are covered by Trust fund interest. Additional expenses may arise if your loved ones decide to make additions to your plan.

Protect your income

There are no financial penalties for your careful planning. If you ever need to transition to rest-home care, any funds you place into the Trust won't be used for your care expenses. This means the amount you allocate for your funeral plan (up to a certain value) won't count towards your total assets. Your money is prepaid into a trust under your name, where it earns interest, ensuring your peace of mind.

Ease the burden on family

Whether you pre-plan, pre-pay or both, you have already made many of the major decisions usually required of loved ones in their time of grief. This eases the financial and emotional burden on them and allows them to grieve without these pressures.

Investment security

Prepaid funeral expenses are securely held in a dedicated trust, completely separate from Golden Bay Motueka Funeral Services, and are fully safeguarded with ANZ. We serve as custodians of the Trust, without any financial stake in it. If there were any issues with GBMFS, the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand will assume custodianship of the Trust.

Prepayment ensures that your funeral wishes are honoured exactly as you envision. You can personalise every aspect of your funeral service, from readings to music, casket choice, and more. Making these decisions in your own time grants you peace of mind, shielding you from the stress often linked with loss.

Full flexibility

Golden Bay Motueka Funeral Services will help you document your wishes and provide you with a copy of your plan. You can change your arrangements anytime. If the funeral is in another town, we can arrange for another FDANZ member to conduct it.
